Endodontics | Dental treatment

Endodontics is the branch of dentistry which is concerned with diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases and injuries of the dental pulp and associated periradicular conditions.

Prevention through regular dental checkups is our priority, but if an inflammation occurs, the dentists in our dental Studio Stomatologija I estetika will give their best efforts to cure and preserve the tooth, which requires patience, as well as for any other treatment.

An endodontically treated tooth is functional like a normal, healthy, vital tooth. In postendodontic treatment, a properly cured tooth can serve as carrier of the prosthetic work.

Dental caries

The dental pulp comprises soft connective tissue, nerves, and the blood supply for the tooth. Importance of pulp vitality to sound tooth development is essential for optimum patient care.

Dental caries, also known as tooth decay or cavity, is a disease wherein bacterial processes damage hard tooth structure (enamel, dentin, and cementum). If decay is left untreated, these tissues progressively break down and it will reach the tooth's pulp. If the pulp becomes infected, a person may experience pain from the tooth’s nerve. Painful inflammation of the pulp is caused by a condition called pulpitis. There are two forms of pulpitis: reversible and irreversible. Irreversible pulpitis occurs when inflammation and other symptoms, such as pain, are severe, and the pulp cannot be saved.

If left untreated, the infection spreads deeper to the bone and to the tooth root apex. As a result of the inflammation, a granuloma is formed. Inflammation is not necessarily accompanied by pain. Therefore, you should have a regular dental visit at least twice a year. If the dentist notices a change in the tooth during dental exam, he will take a panoramic dental x-ray, which depicts the teeth & the supporting bones of the upper and lower jaw and associated bone structures. This important diagnostic tool provides valuable information about the overall dental health and is used for diagnosis and treatment planning in almost all dental treatment situations.

Benefits of therapy

In our dentistry we use cutting-edge technologies with reduced radiation up to 90% compared to classic dental x-ray equipment.

Endodontic procedures are performed under local anesthesia, so therapy is completely painless.

To prevent salivary and bacterial contamination, the tooth is isolated with a rubber sheet, so work is done under dry conditions, providing a clean operating field. Tooth isolation using the dental dam is the standard of care; it is integral and essential for any nonsurgical endodontic treatment.
