Any surgical procedure performed in the oral cavity (incision of the gums, bone removal, complicated tooth extraction, implant placement and suturing) is completely pain-free, as it is done under local anaesthetic. However, a large number of patients experience discomfort and fear due to bad previous experiences or the anxiety that the procedure could be painful.

All our patients have the opportunity to talk to Dr. Jovičević before any procedure and to express their concerns and expectations, and also to receive an explanation of the procedure with instructions on postoperative care. Since fear in the dental practice is of a psychological nature, good knowledge and preparation always make the entire procedure more comfortable.

On the day of the procedure, be sure to rest and sleep. It is recommended to eat something an hour or two before coming to the clinic in order to ward off hunger for a while. After the procedure, food should be avoided until the anaesthetic has completely worn off, which can be an hour and a half to two hours after the procedure. This is because you may bite your lip or cheek due to the lack of sensation. On the day of the procedure, be sure to take all medicines prescribed to you (e.g. for blood pressure), unless expressly agreed otherwise in advance. Buy chlorhexidine toothpaste (containing Parodontax extra 0.2% Curasept 0.2% and Perioaid 0.2%) at the pharmacy, which is required for oral hygiene after surgery. It is recommended to rinse the oral cavity with this mouthwash 24 hours before surgery to reduce the amount of bacteria in the oral cavity and, therefore, minimising the possibility of the wound becoming infected later. Have painkillers at hand to reduce any pain after the procedure, but it should be emphasised that the sense of pain is extremely subjective and depends on the individual, and sometimes painkillers are not needed at all. Ibuprofen (Brufen) and paracetamol (Lupocet) painkillers are recommended and those containing acetylsalicylic acid (Aspirin) should be avoided as they impede blood clotting which is important to help the wound heal.

The most important thing is that you leave your fear at home and trust us!
